1. Agreement
By installing or using TheLab (the "App"), whether as a Progressive Web App at lab.brightlabcrew.com or as an Android app from Google Play, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the App.
2. The App
TheLab is a personal training log. It helps you record workouts, view your training history, and track lift progression. It is provided "as is", on a best-effort basis, by a solo operator.
3. Tiers — Free, Pro, Unlimited
The free tier lets you log workouts (unlimited), see the last 30 days of history, keep up to 5 routines, and up to 7 custom exercises. Data export (JSON and clipboard) is always free — required by GDPR Article 20 and the NZ Privacy Act 2020.
Pro ($5 NZD/month) removes the history, routine, and custom-exercise limits, unlocks the Workout Analysis tab, enables rest-timer notifications, and includes 30 AI-coach calls per month.
Unlimited ($15 NZD/month) is Pro plus up to 100 AI-coach calls per day (a soft fair-use cap that prevents single users running up the AI bill) and priority access to new AI features as they ship.
Paid tiers are sold via Google Play Billing on Android. Pricing, billing cycles, refunds, and cancellation are governed by Google Play's terms. Cancel anytime in Google Play; existing data is preserved on downgrade.
4. Your data, your responsibility
Your training data is stored locally on your device. We do not back it up. If you uninstall the App, reset your device, or clear browser storage, your data is gone and we cannot recover it. Export your data periodically (Profile → Data → Export all data) if you want a copy.
5. Health and fitness disclaimer
This is the important one. Read it.
TheLab is a tracking tool. It is not a substitute for advice from a qualified medical professional, registered dietitian, or certified personal trainer. The strength standards, rank labels, exercise illustrations, and any suggestions the App displays are general information, not personal medical or fitness advice.
You agree that:
- You participate in exercise at your own risk.
- You will consult a qualified medical professional before beginning, changing, or resuming any exercise programme, especially if you have an injury, chronic condition, or recent surgery, or if you are pregnant.
- You are solely responsible for using safe form, choosing appropriate loads, and stopping when something hurts.
- Failure on a heavy lift can cause serious injury. Always use a spotter or safety equipment when training near your limits.
6. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent allowed by law:
- We are not liable for any injury, illness, financial loss, lost data, or other harm arising from your use of (or inability to use) the App.
- Our total liability for any claim is capped at the fees you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or NZ$50, whichever is greater.
- The App is provided "as is" and "as available", with no warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or uninterrupted operation.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under the New Zealand Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or other mandatory consumer-protection law in your jurisdiction.
7. Acceptable use
You will not: reverse-engineer the App for commercial gain, redistribute it under a different name, scrape it for data, attempt to bypass the Pro paywall, or use it to harass, deceive, or harm others. Doing any of these terminates your right to use the App immediately.
8. Intellectual property
The App's code, design, branding, and original content are © Noah Waculicz / BrightLab Crew. The yuhonas exercise dataset is Public Domain (Unlicense). Exercise illustrations from static.exercisedb.dev are hotlinked under their hosting terms; we do not redistribute them. Phosphor icons are MIT-licensed. Lucide-derived icons are ISC-licensed.
9. Changes to the App or Terms
We may update the App, add features, remove features, change pricing, or change these Terms. Material changes will be flagged in-app and the "Effective" date at the top of these Terms will update. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms. If you don't agree, stop using the App and delete your data.
10. Termination
You can stop using TheLab anytime — uninstall the app, clear browser storage, cancel any active Pro subscription in Google Play. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or if continuing to provide the service becomes commercially or legally unviable. On termination, the Pro subscription is handled per Google Play's refund policy.
11. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any dispute that cannot be resolved by email goes to the New Zealand courts. If you live in a jurisdiction whose consumer-protection law gives you stronger rights, those rights are preserved.
12. Severability
If any part of these Terms is held unenforceable by a court, the rest stays in force.
